Project Description
When we think of youth, we think of young people between the ages of 12 and 20. In this time as we all know, huge changes are taking place, emotionally, physically and socially. The Rangatahi project, identified in the “Hearts and Minds research, is giving us an opportunity to see through a different lense – a youth perspective, and to help the community to accept and address what it is youth need.
The project intends to review the status, available support and future needs of Rangatahi within the Katikati area. The project has now moved into research and investigation of funding streams and models for education and training in addition and complementary to existing resources. The desire is to enable the development of a locally led programme. It hopes in the future to re-engage and provide capacity support for ‘Individualised Learning and Employment Pathways’ including paid contracts for youth, and co-ordination of youth, education, iwi and industry partnerships.
